I went up to a 7800 3D Mark, but that’s without any AA, which is what’s really supposed to be helped by these particular cards. Running the super high resolution of 2650 x 1600 is possible, and even playable, but not smooth.

I clocked it down to 1600 x 800 for Need for Speed Most Wanted and that seemed an ideal resolution. I’m able to run FlatOut2 at full tilt, and but I really noticed a quality difference in BF2.

BF2 shows the difference between the 7800 and 7900 chipset, and it really looks amazing. Everything is rendered better. The water is clearer, smoother, the textures are more conforming to the curves, and the color is vivid. I’m still experimenting with the ideal settings for everything, balancing my desire to be at max resolution, and my need for smooth frame rates.

A dual core FX would solve a lot of issues, and RAM running at full speed wouldn’t be bad either. 2 SATA 3Gig drives running in RAID…
