I am attempting to do music stuff. I am inspired after setting up my keyboard again. It was really lagging when Dan was playing, but I think it may have just been the particular sample he was using. I found the other program that actually notes the notes that are on it – Cakewalk. It can mix waves, and add effects, and take midi and form it into wave and then add effects to that. It’s pretty cool. I just have to sit down and use it, and without actually being able to play the keyboard, it makes it difficult to make anything useful.
Instead I listen to existing songs. I made a few melodies that can’t stand on their own, but may create a good background, or loop, that can be played over with a beat. I also came up with some good beats but none of them can be blended together. Their all the wrong timing, and I don’t really know enough about music, real music, to do anything with them. I know “listening” music, I can hear something and know if it’s good and I can make stuff in my head, but I can’t seem to put it down or keyboard it down into a usable form.
I tried to dictate to Dan before, but it didn’t really work, but I think we were also really young — and then when we revisited it all we were really drunk. Now with the Cakewalk, maybe he can transcribe and then we can go back and tweak to get the timing right.
So here’s some brainstorm:
“She’s Got the Look” …what in the world could make a brown eyed girl turn blue…
Oh shit, I love the internet. I typed in the title in the address bar and got the lyrics!
I want to do the song to a new beat, maybe rap over a rock beat and sing the refrain all melodiously.
Outfield – “Your Love” – the guitar at the beginning can be sampled and used as a reoccuring beat, every other measure, or as a leadin to a refrain.
Clips from “What About Bob” –
“BOB IS FUN!” “Your father’s fun.”
“BOB!”
Then a bongo sound, reminiscent of Jungle Love (oh ee oh ee oh)
_ _ – _ _ – _ – _ – <-- left and right channels, alternating with a 2, 1, 2, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, beat
and then also the organ from Jungle Love:
___________ oheeoheeoh ___________ ***
o ** o * o * o * o * o * oooo
.... .... .... .... ....
we’ve got organs = _____
then snare = o
clap = *
and sticks = .
It works in my head, dammit!
I can recreate it with beatbox.
Joe Scarbury – Great American Hero Theme Song
“Believe it or not, I’m walking on air, I never thought I could be so freeeeee.
Flyin away on a wing and a prayer, whooo could it be?
Believe it or not, it’s just meeee!”
