I’ve had a stupid problem lately, well it’s been a bit of a problem for a while.
The fan on my Asus A8N-SLi Deluxe motherboard is dying. The Northbridge chipset fan to be specific. Since the SLi bus is controlled by that chip, it gets really hot with only a little overclocking. The fan is designed badly to start, but I have found a couple solutions. For now I’m going to set a graphics card fan on top of the existing heatsink. It should tide me over until the other one from NewEgg arrives. I’m also getting another power supply, a 680W. I know it’s going to really suck the juice, but as long as I don’t keep it on, I can’t see it using any more juice then an XBox 360 😉 heh.

I went with the chipset from newegg, just a CoolerMaster, but there’s a couple links regarding possibilities in the (011605.html) links for today. No can linkee, email post.

It will give me a high constant power level that I can overclock to my chips maximum potential. Right now I have the really big heatsink and fan on my CPU but I can’t crank enough juice to keep the power constant to it when I overclock it. so I’m stuck hovering about 3ghz, and if I overclock it any more then that it drops the RPMs on the chipset fan (already broken and tends not to want to spin without a touch when first starting or getting really hot) and occationally dips the power to the motherboard. The 12V dips considerably when running really high graphics with the 2 x 7800GTs in SLi.
