I saw Underworld today, only after the most unfulfilling doctors visit — ever.

The doctor was a student, I could tell right away. Since I had mentioned “STD screening” she was all nervious and proceeded to tell me that “if there’s no discharge, then the only thing to really check for is HIV — with guys you’d know it if you had something”. That really made me angry, because everything we learned in high school sex education was that STDs can be a silent killer. (or at least make you wish you were dead) How dare she dismiss it so readily! I have a feeling it was just because she was uncomfortable with it. I wasn’t concerned that I actually had anything, but this is my last doctor’s visit (insurance goes bye-bye soon) — the least I can do is back up my assumption that all is well. On top of that, when we were done she referred me to “the lab” for the actual blood-taking without showing me where it was, or explaning anything… and after putting me through a gauntlet of inquiries in regards to my seat-belt habbits, presence of guns in the house, and a few other ridiculously irrelivant questions.

I was fed up — and all this after being 5 minutes away from walking out (I told myself I’d leave after an hour had passed without seeing anyone… she came in @ 55 min on the dot).

After that was all done, and I calmed down a little (left there about as riled up as a muskrat in heat)… I caught a matinee of Underworld. I was a bit dissapointed in that as well, it was pretty… it had vampires and warewolves all right, but they each had specialty ammunition so they could have gun-fights left and right. The premise was good, the execution was dissapointing — it was interesting, half-way through I was actually paying attention, but it fell well short of my expectations.

If you like gothic-ness, you’ll enjoy the costumes… but the characters were few and far between. The majority was fluff.

Catch a matinee and you won’t be kicking yourself for the $9 you would otherwise be spending.
