>The Fast and the Mildly Agitated
OK — so I’m going to go pick up my car from the body shop, I had borrowed the Topaz to get around in the meanwhile – not 5 minutes from the place when someone ran into me. GRAUGH! There was a light coming up along Rt 20 I was in the right lane going straight, they were in the left lane. They turned right, and right into my rear left quarter panel. I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m magnetic.
That’s not all — it had to be a melee, if not for the friendly Russian immigrant that saw it and offered witness… I’m not sure what I would have done. It turned out that they were following a U-Haul, the driver of which got out and pretended like he was the one driving. He was asked about his license by the Russian, and of course didn’t have one – he called them on the fact that they were trying to cover up the fact by putting the other guy on the driver’s side. They stammered, wrote down my license plate – I was trying to get their info when the entire family jumped in the car and took off. We were right at a car dealership, the employees had come out shortly before and had all the tags from both the U-Haul and the other people’s car. They all offered witness as well.
I didn’t call the police — maybe I should have, but they obviously were in no shape to pay any kind of damages… the fear in the driver’s eyes when he was asked about a license… I just felt bad. I knew that the Topaz was ok, their light was broken and the bumper pushed in… and I didn’t want anyone arrested for maybe $500-1000. They needed a break, I think. I just didn’t want to deal with police, and insurance… I just got done with all that. I can only hope that it’ll work out positively, that I did the right thing – overall. I didn’t care about the money, I knew the car wasn’t badly hurt, and everyone was ok – no harm done… I think. =]
…but In case anyone should see a 90-92 Toyota Camry with the MA license plate: 6961 RO, don’t let them hit you, and tell ’em “LARGE MARGE SENT YA!” =]~
