>About a year and a half ago I had taken “Database Management Systems” with the same professor I have this time.
I had to leave halfway through because:
A) I had no money
B) I had previously been out of work but was starting my new job here and hours conflicted
C) I was so far behind in most of my classes I didn’t have much hope, I finished one class that semester – VisualBASIC
He was so adamant about me not going to “the company across the street” he actually yelled to me as I was leaving, after angrily signing my withdrawal slip… “They’ll eat you alive!”
I talked to him today after class, he recognized me but didn’t say anything. I mentioned something about having to go to work across the street and it hit him. I mentioned how he had felt strongly about it when I left, but that I was doing ok and getting back on track with school and the like. He had a bit of an understanding, and it was good to see a softer side to the harsh professor he puts on.
All the professors @ STCC seem to be that way, really harsh on the outside, usually portly, and with egos to match their girth. There’s a couple of softies… but that’s only because they haven’t been there long enough yet. Seeing people come in and not even try… or who wish to be spoon fed coming right from high school to a community college, it’s got to be frustrating, and what better way to keep them from inquiring and asking for more then they deserve then to put on a good tough/solid facade.
