I stopped into Gap to get a few things, and visit with my previous co-workers. Kate was congradulatory, but had to stick in a bit regarding Travelers being bought by Met Life. She said something about 500 jobs would be lost in the process. It put a large damper on the mood, though Kate normally has a foot in the doldrums.

So I just found this article regarding the Met-Life purchase of Traveler’s Insurance, that’s Traveler’s Life — which already spun off of Traveler’s Property about 2 years ago. Traveler’s Property then merged with St Paul. Met-Life’s purchase is regarding the CitiGroup owned part. I don’t know where the loss of jobs bull came from, possibly she just stuck that in there… either that or her Mom is involved with Life, which would make sense that she’d have heard about it.

So no Kate… there will be no layoffs, not here anyhow.
