I forgot about this:

They’re always pushing for oil drilling in Alaska — they were just trying to come up with a good excuse. People are more apt to say yes to drilling if they think there’s no other choice. What happened to the initial agreement of our handling of Iraq oil, huh? Didn’t we agree that in order to “maintain current market prices” we’d put any overflow, or “our cut” in other words, into a “federal oil reserve”?

They have influence over these prices, too – over Opec. One of the selling points of the Bush campaign was that he has this great repore with the Saudi’s, one of the main members of Opec. We probably secretly said OK to cutting production, then we’ll make extra oil in Iraq, stowe it, and make more money off the oil that we do sell (and get 1 cent(?) a barrel for, or maybe it’s a percentage? If that’s the case then I’d certainly think something’s up with this decision).

No — we don’t need to drill in Alaska, but it would certainly help to get back at least what we’ve spent to “restore democracy” to a place that we didn’t need to interfere with in the first place — at least not so urgently.
