Biomutant UltraWide INIs

I initially got Biomutant at a minor discount. It was still relatively new and I thought the screenshots looked impressive. I was really in love with the creatures and the premise. The first time I fired it up I was disappointed in the graphics! It looked really grainy, the fur was just bad, which for a game with many fuzzy creatures just seemed like bad planning. I didn’t even play it that long and got my money back from Steam. Many months later, and with a sizable discount I decided it was worth picking up even if the graphics were…

Befallen

I b fallen in Super Cloudbuilt.  It makes me anxious and it’s overstimulating on top of being cell-shaded which I have disliked since the days of JetSetRadio.   This one in particular has a lot of thought put into it and I’m not really giving it the due credit nor time it deserves.  I think some people might really like it.  I think I’m finding a trend of solo games as I explore these new ones.  I picked up my weapon and things started crawling on me so I may need to back of some of the settings a little. An…

New Games

I added a few new games to the library, thanks to some steam sales + lack of impulse control. I missed out on my cart full of songs for Rocksmith – 40% off is the cheapest they ever go and they were on sale this weekend. Just as well as I don’t have the $20 I would have spent on them. However with money being no object in virtual land here are the new additions: – RedOut: holy mackerel this first load is killing me! It’s a 7g install so I can’t imagine why it’s taking this long! There was…

Video: GTA V Gets A Tweak!

Rockstar always rolls them out dialed waaaaaay back. Up until GTA V had already been out for a year the mods were still being applied to IV. They had 4K working in that quite a ways back. I still see a lot of blurring, and the people don’t appear to be optimized but it looks damn good. Here was IV Redux, assuming same author: http://www.moddb.com/mods/grand-theft-auto-iv-redux (warning: autoplay)

Doom Open Beta

I pre-loaded Doom. I wasn’t going to do it, but I am in an endless quest for graphics and gameplay evaluation. I know I sound old when I say this… am I saying this? Yeah — it’s a gore fest. It feels like it’s trying a little too hard with the face smashing and the head ripping and the biting and… well, everyone’s in full armor suits and it just doesn’t feel right for Doom. Of course I have formed this opinion by the opening trailer alone. Despite having pre-loaded it, it will not launch. It did launch, but when…

EA Access – Need For Speed PC Preview

Need for Speed is currently loading, I’m going to give the first 10 hours a shot and see if it’s worth it. I appreciate they allowed it to scale to 4k and supported wheel hardware (assuming force feedback) but really don’t think it’s going to be anything earth shattering. They often go far too arcade. I don’t wish to play Ridge Racer. I want good old Road & Track: The Need for Speed Video is a success! New drivers did the trick. 1080p/60 ** NVidia Driver 364.51+ is a MUST for this game ** [update 3/11/2016 10:46] Attempting 4k resolution……

Rock Paper Shotgun: Best Games Based On Books

Books! They’re like films without pictures, or games that are all cutscene. Old people and hipsters really like them, teenagers think they’re like totally lame, and quite frankly we should all read more of them. There are countless games inspired by books – most especially Tolkien, Lovecraft and early Dungeons & Dragon fiction – but surprisingly few games based directly on books. Even fewer good ones. Perhaps one of the reasons for that is that a game can, in theory, cleave closer to what a book does than a film can – with their length and their word counts, their…

5 minute Grand Theft Auto V highway pileup/explosion. – YouTube

Shamelessly swiped directly from Kotaku.  Google Now suggested it, otherwise I’ve given up on the ENTIRE Gawker family.  The binary lords help anyone who ventures there through a social media site as you will be barraged by the barragiest of barrages. Anyhow… phenominal GTA V video here – not only does the AI make some really great choices, it’s in first person — can’t do that on console, let alone without reaching the “vehicle limit”. Enjoy! (GIF here – Video after break)

Mortal Kombat X – Downloading Faction Data

All I’ve got so far out of Mortal Kombat X and it’s new “streaming install system” is this: Single player, crashed (closed w/o anything) Tutorial, crashed Fatality practice, crashed Faction Stuff — seems to be… loading? Check out the explanation from Steam on how this new process will work. Granted it’s only a half hour after it became decrypted. I had the 3G downloaded prior and on a whim decided to give it a shot before bed.

Upcoming Reviews – #pcgames

Thanks to the holiday sales I’ve got a bunch of new goodies to go over with you. Stay tuned for a write up on these little diddies, with some gamplay viewable at twitch.tv/serinitism and youtube.com/syntheticx Alien Isolation GRID Autosport Metal Gear Rising Revengeance Octodad Dadliest Catch Ryse Son of Rome Shadow Of Mordor There is so much to love about the latest set of games.  The nextgen systems have hit and the high quality textures are flowing.  The graphics are amazing, incredibly detailed.  4K is almost native and you can even use some NVidia magic to render at 2 or…

When Next Gen Is Missing the Next

Detail, polygons, shaders… all very important.  What I find most important are textures.  Artistic and accurate textures can bring life to anything, even simplistic character models and environments.  Water looking good — that’s a decent feat, trees with individual leaves, fire, rain, all these things are important little details — like the flipflops flipping in GTA V.  They add to the immersion and life of a game. I can not fathom how these next gen consoles are coming out and not supporting 1080p across the board.  It seems ludicrous that it wouldn’t be the driving force.  My 4 year old…

Review: BioShock Infinite

The world forms around you. You enter a familiar place but it is still very new, dropped into a preloaded consciousness. You had a job, you knew why you were here, simply follow the instruction and the goal will be complete. You’re lifted into this futuristic utopia high in the clouds,  where so many are so happy to go about their day but there is a dark brooding, uneasiness to it all. It can’t be that perfect, a distrust. There are sins too foul to wash away. You explore, hearing much about the status quo and the rebellion trying to gain traction. Rights,…

Tomb Raider: Review (Kotaku)

I’m excited for Tomb Raider – but it’s unfortunate that I’m almost done playing through Far Cry 3 – it sounds very very similar. Complete with the very real, visceral agony and endurance needed to be an action hero: Tomb Raider: The Kotaku Review.

Video: I Miss Bad Company 2! BC2 Gameplay/Commentary

I agree with several of the points he makes in this video. Jungle setting, destructible buildings… those points are primarily level based. The games take place in different environments entirely. You may not be able to take down a whole block in BF3, and there’s not so much fighting going on in jungles right now, and BF3 is all about what’s happening “now”. I would like to see more stationary machine guns, there really is something great about taking down a heli with machine gun fire and it would be strategic since they’re not often worried about the ground fire,…

Teaching Through Video Games Becomes Blurred

There are no video games for a 3 year old. They have their shapes in the holes and the identifying patters and exploring storybook games, but there are no real 3 year old games. Fun games that send you somewhere else, driving a big truck, piloting a giant mech, or simply driving around a basic city in a car. They make them to entertain adults and they go above and beyond what a 3 year old needs to see, and should see. Outside of the fact that 3 year olds should have plenty of time to play and minimal screen…

ICEnhancer 2.1 1.0.4.0 Final

icenhancer 2.1 1040 has been released! [Download] ICELaGlacE Official Site More to come… [ screenshots ] Nothing too impressive yet – just updated smaa to fxaa, we’ll see if there’s an obvious difference. There was a major need for some sort of aliasing, made all the more apparent by the light. Night is pretty in its own right, but don’t lose your headlights. Make sure to catch the sunrise over the beach!

Review: The Sims Medieval

I’ve played Sims 3 in the past. I enjoyed building the character up for a while, establishing relationships and such, but I quickly grew tired of the annoying need to eat, pee and sleep. Of course, I was pregnant with twins at the time, so this was probably more troublesome to me than the average player – too much like reality! So why did I try this game in the first place? Well, honestly because there is an expansion pack called Pirates and Nobles. I’m a sucker for pirates so it caught my interest. Throw in the fact that reviewers…

Review: Max Payne 3

Whew. That’s a rush. I just got done playing through my first hour of Max Payne 3 and I feel… stimulated, enthralled, and defeated. I had to stop playing though. There is only so many times you can replay the same section after repeatedly accidentally bullet-time-ing off the side of a building. I’ll revisit another night. I’m sad that I didn’t get any good screenshots or video, however. I must say it plays brilliantly – there wasn’t a skip a start, a stutter at max settings. The people are well modeled, move realistically (the trailers made them look a little…

FPS – Fighting With Feedback

More to come on this. Zombie bite for now So I have this giant wound on my hand from last week, an accident at a public sprinkler resulted in some slippage and skinnage. Ive also been playing a lot of BF3 lately . I play with the Novint Falcon so I’m essentially holding a pistol the whole time . My hand throbs, the pain makes it feel more visceral, more with it, maybe even playing better. I am more cautious, and aware.
