When Next Gen Is Missing the Next

Detail, polygons, shaders… all very important.  What I find most important are textures.  Artistic and accurate textures can bring life to anything, even simplistic character models and environments.  Water looking good — that’s a decent feat, trees with individual leaves, fire, rain, all these things are important little details — like the flipflops flipping in GTA V.  They add to the immersion and life of a game. I can not fathom how these next gen consoles are coming out and not supporting 1080p across the board.  It seems ludicrous that it wouldn’t be the driving force.  My 4 year old…

Stop With the Online!

You’ve read this article before, and you’ve probably experienced some level of frustration at the hands of copy protection at some point, be it music, movies, or games. I don’t know what you’ve been up to either, if you haven’t. This subject is fresh in my mind, and I chose to revisit it because Ubisoft ruined my afternoon. I only get a small window to game with children sometimes, and that window was just wasted in an attempt to play what is among the worst games ever made.

Double Standards

Originally drafted 2004 09 06: >”I thought we were on a month to month basis…” So was I — month to month equals 30 days notice. How would you feel if I told you that you had to be out by the end of the week? It’s common courtesy to give 30 days notice, on top of the fact that I would need to give him 30 days notice. Previous house mates moving out had led to discussions, and Scott assured me he would give me such a courtesy. Telling me on the 27th hardly constitutes any notice, let alone…

Clear Channel Spits on the Valley

Clear Channel has once again proven they know how to mismanage into the ground. Back in May – WRNX 100.9 – a progressive rock, adult contemporary station (we’re talking Counting Crows – not Kenny G) was traded to Clear Channel. Nothing much changed at the time but first they fired Denise Mozilla – the news lady. It was replaced by the aptly coined “Robonews” by Steve Cantara, the newer morning man. He was soon to go as well, citing budget and economy concerns. He was one of the greatest morning men I’ve heard. He had true potential but they never…

Comcast Data Usage

So what is the deal with the network data usage meter on customer.comcast.com? Last month I was trying to get the end of month surge to use up the last of my allowed quota. I hopped on like the 29th and it was already to a new month. I checked my billing date and it was the 28th so it appeared it all got reset. However this month I plan for the billing date which starts on the 29th and today I am still racking up data for October! How can I stay under if it’s not predictable. So now…

I am annoyed and want to strangle the tax lady because of it.

I go to your chain vs an actual accountant for a reason, you believe everything I say and put it down as such. You don’t need to insinuate that I’m lying because I don’t have a receipt for a tank of gas I got in March of last year. You also don’t need to ask me “you mean you don’t remember?” like I’m a moron because I can’t remember the exact amounts on my 2010 tax schedule for the business. I also don’t appreciate your ruse where you lure me into a false sense of security like I should be…

NAB successfully purchases FCC

The latest FCC panel member has said Sirius needs to reserve 25% for “minority” programming for his approval. Why does it have to be minority? Why not public access?? I’d say none out of principal, but it’s an easy fix that they can leverage and it won’t be too much of an impact. It shouldn’t be anywhere near 25% either – CTV has 2 channels, DTV has none. It is the same thing, it’s a pay service! OH, and here’s where the millions spent by the NAB come in: they want to add HD radio compatibility of the radio as…
