EA keeps coming out with booster packs. They found special forces was a little ridiculous. A mission pack with some new game features had a poor turnout due to the high price. I forget if it was $29.99 or $39.99 but it was almost the price of a whole game on it's own. It had some new maps, weapons, and you could see in the dark in certain maps. It tried to be a Tom Clancy mission pack for BF2.
I didn't buy it and I only see a few servers online with it. I could just be hiding those servers that don't have my mission packs though. At any rate then they came out with Euro Force. I was convinced it was more of the same until I saw the price - $4.99
Well god damn, they've got my money.
Now they've got another and I think they'll get that $4.99 too.
I can't beat it. They add new vehicles, new maps... and it's so much fun. I think I've forgotten about the nightmare that is reinstalling if something happens. I'm just hopeful that it will continue to impress the way the existing levels have. It's so worth the $5.

Please note that durring the previous post I very carfully placed my Cognac so it was not evaporated by the wind of the fan. I had a flacid glass the evening previous due to just such an occurence.
Hmmm... I wonder what the poor people are doing right now.

I just watched XMen... and I appear to have the minority vote. I don't know XMen to the point of some, I knew the characters, watched the cartoon, played the video game... none of which relayed the complicated story of the comics. I thought the movie was a great action flick, and followed the other two quite well -- even minus the director.
The effects were on par with the previous, though it's no small feat moving the Golden Gate bridge intact. There's a new development with the battle against mutants, and some interesting twists that only those privy to the end of the credits shall know (or those who have already read all the spoilers).
I enjoyed it, give it a 3 out of 4 stars... and please, don't hit me.

I can't believe there's so little in my inbox. I know yesterday was a holiday, but I still expected there to be things to do. In all actuality there is quite a bit to do. I've been volunteered for so many different projects. I've got an Access DB to go through and verify calculations and results as well as a document depository for the department. They were thinking Notes, I was thinking HTML. It certainly looks nicer and you can bookmark the items you'll need again.
All signs point to this being a fabulous day, but I can't get over my semi-funk. I say semi because I know why I am in it, I know why I shouldn't be, and I could get myself out of it. It's a beautiful day, and I woke up on time, and even with time to spare. I got my coffee from DD (cause America runs on it, did you know that? Says so right on my cup, so it must be true.) and rolled in with ease, even having left my badge on my desk.
I am in such a hurry to pay off my credit cards that I ran up in the past month or two that I'm scrambling -- I transferred money to pay my car loan and somehow never paid it. I've never been this late for a payment... and I had the cash in the account and STILL didn't pay it. I paid the card instead. I will now pay 2 payments to make up for it, but I still don't know if the bank will forgive me. Not sure how I can talk myself out of it. I don't want a late car payment to show up on my credit when I'm hoping to get a house loan. I also want to avoid losing my percentage rate.
Like, I said -- self created funk. I don't have to worry about it, there's not much I can do until the money comes in, which Nicole reminded me this morning isn't actually until Thursday. So time to relax, do some work, hope for the best, and enjoy myself in the meanwhile.

Iran Argues Their CaseIran keeps arguing that they deserve nuclear power, but they fail to give a good reason other then "We deserve it".
I don't feel they've proven themselves to be trusted, and based on the EU's reaction, the rest of the word agrees. We may have a double standard but it's only because we just don't feel that you're on the level.
You seem sneaky Mr Iran, and we're not going to dipose one guy who didn't have nukes, only to empower another right next door.
They think that everyone's against them, but it was only until recently (and I'd still argue that) they were the ones against everyone.
Your country having access to nukes isn't going to make anyone comfortable.
Paranoia and easy access to nuclear materials are not a good combination!

Thomas Jefferson Johnson - Jeff Johnson: The Name You Know.**UPDATE** Bush interferes with FBI raidI don't see anything wrong with raiding a congressman's office.
There should be no precedent protecting these individuals from wrongdoing.
How can they be immune from investigation? If there is just cause, they should be investigated.
However, there should be no "raids" without warrants. If you are truly investigating a problem then there should be no issue. The FBI shouldn't be able to go in and find $90,000 in someone's freezer just cause someone ratted them out but there was obviously something fishy going on here. Possibly on both sides. How does the FBI get involved, or are they the only ones with authority over congress vs the local police? It's a big political
thaaaaangue and I say that with disgust (and my tongue hanging out my mouth).
I really hope it wasn't any kind of a personal vandetta, I've lost enough faith in government with these past 6 years... 7? Please let it end!!!

I just picked up Call of Cthulhu today (that's
Cath-u-loo) and my first impressions are mixed. I'm not overly good at this sort of game, but it looks really nice, though the graphics are a bit on the low side. It makes up for it by it's use of shadow, and cinematic effects.
You're a PI in the 1920s (maybe a tad before) and you begin your journey investigating an odd Cult that's set up near a seaside community in Massachusetts. They're involved in horrific experiments, and the experience leaves you scarred and amnesiac.
You then get a mysterious call to investigate a missing person. As you enter the town of the young man's disappearance you realize that "out of the ordinary" just doesn't describe it. After investigation the clues fall into place.
I've barely gotten the hook, there's no weapons yet, and things are just starting to make more sense. I must say it was a tad frustrating to go to every door in the town hearing "I can't open that" or "it won't budge" before I finally found the right light to go investigate.
I suppose once you get into it you'll find the linear path, but the open ended linear can sometimes be frustrating. It's Survival Horror, but very unique. It strives to keep you in the mood, in-game cinematics appear with occasional film lines, as if watching a
film noir. You don't have a HUD, only your breathing, blood spatters, and your sanity to tell you how you're feeling and movable objects have tell-tale scratches on the floor. Important objects are often well placed for the light to hit, so I haven't walked past much but I've also heard a lot of "hohum" descriptions of ordinary objects.
As you come across gory scenes, and stressful situations, your sanity starts to wear thing, you have panic attacks, breath harder, slow down, and the camera effects start. Blurring, grayed vision, hallucinations... it's all very exciting.
Ever since Matt told me about it I've been keeping my eyes peeled. That was about year and a half ago, and the last I knew it was going to be out for February/March. I don't mind, I'd rather see them wait, although the minimum requirements on the game is a PIII 866 w/ 256mb of RAM. I can imagine it was a while in the making, and it looks like they did well with what they had.
It is telling the story well, and until I can get to the actual weapons and fighting, I don't think I can say much more about it.
I think Bethesda is my new favorite software publisher. I can't stand to see EA eating up the world. Apparently they're not known for their love of their employees - mandatory overtime... chains... and acid baths is what I hear.
So tolerate EA and their monopoly and LOVE Bethesda for things like Call of Cthulhu & Oblivion! Yay!

MySpace Harbors Terrorists!I feel that even though this article is sensationalistic, it has a point.
There are people in this country who see the terrorists as heros. They
read the scriptures, practice martial arts, and share ideas.
One of the items that scared me was the guy counting down to "WWW III / IRAN War"
That lead me off on a tangent in my head, what if these people are actually in on the plan.
Even if they're not, since they posted it on myspace, where did they get the information? Do they have relatives whom they're emulating? Parents? Did they actually overhear this information from real sources? I could speculate on and on.
There's a possibility for using information. What if Iran is playing mind games. They lie, they do what they want, and they create weapons. They're telling us they're making electricity, but why all of a sudden?
Either they're trying to distract, or they're that sure that we won't catch them due to the UN's gullability - always assuming the best of everyone.
However, after Iraq I don't think we'll be able to ever convince them of anything again. We played that card, the US lied, and what did it get us?

Believe it or not... the ferrari saga continues. See the links page for more information.
I am attempting to do music stuff. I am inspired after setting up my keyboard again. It was really lagging when Dan was playing, but I think it may have just been the particular sample he was using. I found the other program that actually notes the notes that are on it - Cakewalk. It can mix waves, and add effects, and take midi and form it into wave and then add effects to that. It's pretty cool. I just have to sit down and use it, and without actually being able to play the keyboard, it makes it difficult to make anything useful.
Instead I listen to existing songs. I made a few melodies that can't stand on their own, but may create a good background, or loop, that can be played over with a beat. I also came up with some good beats but none of them can be blended together. Their all the wrong timing, and I don't really know enough about music, real music, to do anything with them. I know "listening" music, I can hear something and know if it's good and I can make stuff in my head, but I can't seem to put it down or keyboard it down into a usable form.
I tried to dictate to Dan before, but it didn't really work, but I think we were also really young -- and then when we revisited it all we were really drunk. Now with the Cakewalk, maybe he can transcribe and then we can go back and tweak to get the timing right.
So here's some brainstorm:
"She's Got the Look" ...what in the world could make a brown eyed girl turn blue...
Oh shit, I love the internet. I typed in the title in the
address bar and
got the lyrics!
I want to do the song to a new beat, maybe rap over a rock beat and sing the refrain all melodiously.
Outfield - "Your Love" - the guitar at the beginning can be sampled and used as a reoccuring beat, every other measure, or as a leadin to a refrain.
Clips from "What About Bob" -
"BOB IS FUN!" "Your father's fun."
"BOB!"
Then a bongo sound, reminiscent of Jungle Love (oh ee oh ee oh)
_ _ - _ _ - _ - _ - <-- left and right channels, alternating with a 2, 1, 2, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, beat
and then also the organ from Jungle Love:
___________ oheeoheeoh ___________ ***
o ** o * o * o * o * o * oooo
.... .... .... .... ....we've got organs = _____
then snare = o
clap = *
and sticks = .
It works in my head, dammit!
I can recreate it with beatbox.
Joe Scarbury - Great American Hero Theme Song
"Believe it or not, I'm walking on air, I never thought I could be so freeeeee.
Flyin away on a wing and a prayer, whooo could it be?
Believe it or not, it's just meeee!"

Eurika!
I have a masterful idea, please let me know what you think of this:
The problem with underwear:Briefs just make everything stuffy.
Boxer briefs are better, but the legs ride up and it still holds everything up against the crotch.
Boxers are great, but it's either one side or the other. The side with fabric is nice, it feels comfortable, but the other side is constantly rubbing.
You can move to the other side to give equal opportunity, but it's never a win/win situation.
The solution:A "pocket" for the scrotum in the underwear. A sort of "change purse", but with very loose elastic. Just slip the boys in and you're free and clear. No matter which leg they may be closest to, you won't have any rubbing, and it will keep them dryer as there's more air flow. It could be any type of fabric, but what about some really soft cloth in a loosely woven knit. Open squares, like a net. It would cut down on the swinging, too, for those with a large balls to dangle ratio.

I don't think I'm really this bad at communicating. I have my issues, but I can relay my point to a normal person.
The Boss likes to say I can't get my point accross, but he doesn't understand half the things I try to tell him. He'll repeat something back as a problem, when there is no problem if he actually understood what I told him.
He freaks out, so I have to tell him a certain way, trying to think how he'd take it and get the point accross so he'll think of it in the right way.
Between not being able to make him understand, and him telling me I need to get a handle on these items... I just want to wring somebody's neck! I don't know if it's worth being this crazy, I'd much rather be programming.
I am so peaceful when I program, I can let everything else slide and just code away. I'd rather do something relaxing instead of doing something that makes me nuts, and all this administrative stuff is Bullshit!
It's really stressful, and I think I need a pet at work.
I have a fish, but the fish doesn't show me love. When I feed him it's like he's going in for a death blow on the food. i think someone is scaring my fish when I'm away... they want it to be mean, take my fingers off.
So back to the promise of having a fuzzy pet... I think it would relax me. That would be good, that would be nice, that would be... sw.:eee:..:ee:.e:.tie, sw.:eee:..:ee:.e:.tie, sweetie. Ahh.

I have heard of these before, even looked at them before... but I finally have broken down. If I get 5 people to click this link for
getting a free ipod and sign up for a trial of Blockbuster, as soon as your first shipment of DVDs arrives I get a credit. Once I get 5 credits, I get an iPod but I only have 90 days to do it.
I know you have 5 friends who wouldn't mind trying Blockbuster.
If you know of 5 friends who've got an extra $20 for some DVDs to rip... then you can have an iPod too.
I'm signed up under Jay's link. So if you've already helped him out, don't click my link.
I know it's a pyramid scheme, but I have to try. Even if I can help Jay get an iPod (kinda for his birthday) it'll be worth it. So on seccond thought,
go to his link!
Sign up for Blockbuster, rent some DVDs and I can help you "process" them when they come in!

The Real History Behind Cinco De Mayo:
It all started in 1912: back when Helmans was in England, the Titanic was carrying the single largest shipment of mayonaise ever.
Mexico was actually the seccond stop after NY for the Titanic, and the shipment would have provided the Mexicans enough mayonaise to last them for a very long time.
Unfortunately the Titanic sank, and with it -- all of Mexico's mayonaise. Thus they proclaimed a day of mourning - Cinco de Mayo.

"I'm a PC" - "I'm a mac"
"Careful, I've got that virus that's going around" - "That's OK, I'll be fine"
*Sneezes* - *looks chipper*
Apple was touting the mac as the solution for those tired of viruses. Granted, it's been known for quite some time but they never needed to advertise it.
What makes it worse is that
Apple really isn't immune anymore. They've got an intel core, a processor that can be accessed via code already made for the PC, so a virus can be adapted with a modified front end designed with a certain mac in mind.
Power PC chips just didn't do viruses. It wouldn't be able to keep going after an invalid process, stop, and there you are -- no fun for mr malice.
CISC is designed to account for errors, and keep going, so it gets something unusual, a bad value, and moves on, virus code continues, goes back to get the invalid value, sneak under the radar, and boom -- it now can do whatever it wants.
In addition, the more visible you make it -- the more people are going to think about it. By saying your immune, you're taunting the people who have nothing better to do then prove you wrong.
They want to be the one to take you down, because you put it in their face, now everyone knows it's impossible and it makes it all the more glorifying to s/he who finally does it.
Bad form Apple, bad form.

Pigs may be the future for EnergyI can't believe it, here we have a whole rant on why corn can't be used, and the situation presents itself in the form of pig dung. Yes, that's right - turning the sow's ear into a silk purse... or a sow's rear into oil first. That's what these guys have done, a giant oven like contraption that will get 3.6 gallons of crude. Set up some sort of conveyor belt into said oven, and you've got a poop-converting oil factory. I don't know the technicalities of the emmissions released while creating said crude from the porkies but I imagine it just wasn't economically feasible before. With oil so high, all kinds of alternatives are coming within reach. It's about equal to diesel right now, but we could at least use it to heat our homes. Bacon, fuel, and they talk to spiders. Pigs are the shit. Ha, shit.
