Wow. That was so weird.
There's so many people who lie. It's normally little things, but why bother lying to people to make yourself seem cooler then you are. Do you want to be cool so badly that you'll take the chance someone will figure you out? Maybe that's cause most people won't even care, they won't try to call you out, even if they know you're full of shit.
This guy just IM'd me here at work, it sounded like he was looking for advice, but then he was just bragging?:
"do you know anything about javascript?"
"Uh... yeah, done a little bit."
"cause I'm trying to set up a chatroom via SSL"
"well I've seen java applets for chatrooms, but you're going to need something running on the server to do SSL"
he comes over:
"Yeah, my aunt works for homeland security and they want me to do a couple sites for them, yeah, I'm like yeah $200 an hour, sure, no problem -- just need a couple more of these and can get money like I had stuffed away before I lost my job, before this damn accident. They want to be able to do chatrooms, and have people chatting, but not have someone be able to come along and join if the chat is already in session"
Already I know this guy is bunk for several reasons:
1 - he didn't know the difference between javascript and java, or what SSL is for.
2 - before I lost my job? this accident? true he was in a car accident, but supposedly the guy was paying all the bills and he was in for some money. maybe he was talking about being out of work while he had his operation, since he's a temp he doesn't get time off, he just doesn't get paid.
Dropping $200 on someone who doesn't know the difference between java and javascript? or that SSL is server side? Oh man, this guy is trying WAY TOO HARD!
Anyhow, just to see if I could trip him up (I didn't necessarily want to burst his bubble, but I wanted to see how deep it went) I asked him:
"So what do you do your code in?"
"oh, you know, HTML, java"
"what program"
"Wordpad, I don't really use those dreamweavers or golive"
"yeah, I only use golive when I'm setting up CSS, then I edit it by hand"
"yeah, yeah, that's cool"
"so I guess my aunt says they're worried about bird flu coming over here"
ok... and this is why they need chatrooms? please... stop, head hurts.

Wow, two updates in under a month - riproaring!
The links... oh the links, they're piled up in my text file here at work.
I haven't added any new ones as of late. I know, and it pains me. I tried to show someone a link I had found and alas, I had not posted it and thusly could not share. So I will button down and slack for a good 20 minutes and post those. It's just dragging and dropping into QuickLINK, though I've still got to do minor modification. It's meant to be used on a day to day basis. I ought to make a field that fills in the date, but allows you to modify it if necessary. Then I wouldn't have to make any manual edits to the HTML.
In any case! The links will be there later today.
On the bright side I purchased The Godfather game with my EB Games card the other day. The default resolution is 1280 x 1600, I was very surprised. It runs, but and it's playable, but in order to quickly squash enemies I need it down a little. So I tweaked and put it down a few notches and put the antialiasing up really high. The people are very detailed, and very rough, with dark lines and shadows in their faces and clothing. I suppose it's stylized, but it looks a tad odd. Antialiased is better.
I am digging the story so far, and just for kicks I bought some dynamite from this guy in the alley, and went into the bank. I made quick work of the guards and threw the dynamite at the vault - explosions rock in the game - and blam, I was 10k richer. You can outfit your man, dress him up, I'd like to think mine looks like me after modifications of the cheek bones, forehead, nose, ears, hair part, and all sorts of other details that create your character. Make the guy look like whatever you want and he's seamless in all the cut scenes. I am very impressed, but somewhat worried that it says I'm 43% done with missions. Maybe that's just in my neighborhood. I haven't taken over all the businesses or any warehouses yet, but I've robbed a bank!
In any case it's pretty good, control is reminiscent of GTA but designed so it can be used with the gamepad. I've only played it in WinXP64 in which my right thumbstick has no function, so I haven't bothered. It took a bit, and it's not the greatest control, but I really like the way they do hand to hand combat. A little daunting at first, but you get used to it.

There's so much going on. I've wanted to write so many times, but haven't had the strength. There's no time at work due to this program I've been coding. It wasn't coming together and I had to redo the same function like 6 times. I finally figured out a way to do what I needed to yesterday, but it was a nerve racking day -- not knowing if I'd finish in time, but I did.
We had the birthday party on Friday, and I had a blast, but there's a lot of people who need to be purged from my phone book. I've got way too many numbers on there, many apparently irrelivant.
Jay, Justin, Dan and I finally all got together in one place, reuiniting a good batch of 7th grade. It was great fun, and of course resulted in yearbooks being pulled out upon the return home. We hung out until about 2, then everyone went home except Jay who stuck around and we hung out until the wee hours of the morning.
It was a nice evening, I just wish there were others there to share it with. I had everyone I needed, but in the back of my head I couldn't figure out what happened with the people who didn't come. This was my last ditch effort to extend good will to some, but then there were others whom I just never hear from anymore. They just don't call me back one day out of the blue. That's just how it happens when people move on.

I was supposed to go to the NIN concert on Monday, however it was postponed "due to illness". They rescheduled for Friday March 10th, a much better day for a concert. I was bummed because I really wanted to go, but at least it's not cancelled.
The first half of my day was spent getting up real early to get to Brother's Custom Car Care in Westfield. They did the work on my previous car, my 03 Mazdaspeed Protege LTD -- adding carbon fiber dash kit, A pillars and a turbo guage. It made the whole thing quite snazzy.
The new ride is snazzy on it's own, and all set with the dash kits. It was fun, but this is more of a sleeper. I kind of hated to get the turbo gauge on the dash, but it's small and doesn't look too obnoxious. I also got a BOV installed, so I can see the difference it makes with the gauge. It drops down to 0 when I shift, lets off the excess air, and the turbo is ready to fly. The blow off valve almost entirely eliminates any turbo lag. It probably shaves a good seccond, maybe two, but I have't done any timings yet.
The Protege was 14.5 in the quarter, and I think 0-60 was like 9 secconds? I really can't remember.
I'm interested to see what this one does, but I've found a dyno, so I ought to be able to find out without getting in trouble ;)
