So in the interest of obeying company policy, I am posting via email.  This allows me to still update, pass some time at work on the weekends, not really get in trouble, and keep the site a secret from the powers that be.

The man will bring you down! (given a chance, probably) So at any rate, I’ve got another 45 minutes before work is done.  I’ve been doing mostly Cable Modem support all day.  I do the technical stuff really well, it’s the simple things like password resets and anything having to do with specific insurance applications that take me all day.

Nicole and I went to go see Mitch Hedberg and Steven Lynch last Friday.  I’ve still got Mitch on the brain, hence the sig.

He did his best known jokes very quickly, like he was tired of telling them, but it’s what everyone was expecting, like his “Stairway to Heaven”.  Steven Lynch was the real surprise.  I couldn’t believe the songs he had.  I had heard clips but… man! =]  It was good stuff, Nicole was thoroughly disgusted, but loved every minute of it.

I finally perfected the AMD-64.  I’ve got the 4th best score in 3DMark2005 right now, 5500 and I don’t even have the fastest processor nor video cards.  Yeah, there’s an S on there, cause I got the other one hooked up and SLi mode is enabled.  Now I just have to get some time and I’ll be able to play some games with the sucker.  Doom3 looks great in any resolution, but I just remembered NFS-Underground2 yesterday, so I’ll have to see how high I can turn that baby up.

I need to post pictures of the comparative frame rates and CPU scores, I think the P4 may beat it in sheer number crunching, but if I add RAID0 to the AMD system, and/or upgrade to SATA3Gig instead of SATA133 it ought to make up any difference.  It’s a bit pricy right now, I’ve yet to figure out exactly how much, but I’ll be posting it on CGSystems.biz as the pinnacle of game-i-tude.  There’s areas to improve, it’s just going to be more ca-ching, but well worth the payoff for a true gaming machine.  Alien-ware ain’t nothing! (unless it’s liquid cooled, and then you’re on a totally different level).

So that’s it for now, think I’ll whittle away the last little bit, then home to watch something on the big screen :]~

I've been very careful as of late.
I haven't written much.

I am only half lazy, I admit: I'm also somewhat superstitious.
I don't want to jinx it by saying how great things are going... but here's the low down.

I have a job now. It's a temp job. There's no bennefits, 4 days a week, 10 hours a day plus an hour for lunch. It's really lax, there's no one breathing down my neck, no one telling me to take my breaks... I'm on my own. I give the customer's the best service I can, and attempt to treat every issue with patience and clarity.
I really do enjoy it.

I've built a really bad ass AMD 64 bit system, running WinXP 64. It's a very beta experiment, but I figure since I have access to a free 64 bit operating system, I might as well use it and make it as compatible with the hardware I'll be using. Every windows beta is like a custom invitiation from Microsoft to challenge them with new hardware and drivers.

My past builds of Windows have worked well, they normally work out any issues in a release or two, and unlike most people, I actually get to hear what's wrong if something ends up in a blue screen. Not only that... but they FIX it! =]

So here's the stats cause I can't contain myself:


I'll post pictures. I need to post lots of pictures. I'm behind in the picture department.

Oh yeah, and the small matter of the new TV my new room mate just bought: 50" 16:9 Sony LCD Projection.... and we got the HD Box from Comcast... schweeeeeeeet!

I realize what I've been missing.
Couple points of interest:
- HD TV can do 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i/p
- DVD can do 480i, 480p

The progressive scan option on that DVD player of yours is the difference between the i and the p.
TV looks better then DVDs, yessir.
And component (red/blue/green) cables actually compress the HDTV signal, the only cables that do not compress the signal are DVI & HDMI (new technology which integrates up to 8 channels of digital sound in the 1 cable).
The cable box has a DVI so that's my next step -- full HD cable w/o any compression ;)

The roommate's cool, shares food with my still-currently-poh ass... and serves as a much needed break on rent. =] He's not young, but my parents are older, so maybe it's easier for me not to see it as some sort of parental figure thing. He's a The new room mate actually came -before- the TV, believe it or not. Only after he moved in did he suggest it. He's got good advice sometimes. I wouldn't exactly call it sage, but it's no slouch stuff.

No complaints from me, my trusty 32" is sitting in waiting for the big scary tv to pass though. It knows the TV won't be around for ever. I'm just glad it's here ^-^

On top of all the great stuff, I have a wonderful girlfriend. I'm very happy with my current situation. I just had to note this, as I know I haven't been overly optimistic in writings as of late. I'm keeping a more positive feeling going =] I'm reading some Yoga/Herbs book my brother let me borrow, and I think it may be keeping me in a good frame of mind.

It will get better, it all goes bad all at once, and it all gets better all at once.

work has gone well

After working 4 days at 11 hours a day I'm quite worn, but a good sleep today was exactly what I needed.
Jay came over last night, Nicole and I went to Boston Billiards, played a few games, drank a few conacs, then came back to my place to hang out until the wee hours of the morning.

I had this dream about 2 weeks ago. For some reason this kid was terrorizing the neighborhood, trying to get money from people, as it neared Friday he got more peristant, sometimes coming back multiple times a day.
He was a neighborhood bully, and the neighborhood was a small stretch of woods inspired by the "dump road" in West Brookfield. My friend Matt used to live down there, and it seemed like we were in his house.

Finally when things reached their worst, the bully pulled up in his giant old green stationwagon.

We had a final battle, I ended up turning him into a pine tree, which I then tied up in a knot... (I don't know!)
I figured I would change him back later, I walked back into the house.

I little while later a large black Escalade pulled up and some tough characters got out. They stationed a few thugs outside, guarding the outside with their uzi's and Aks. They raided his house, came out empty, saw us in the window looking down from accross the street and proceeded to come over.

The kicked in the door, and Matt's dad was chillin on the couch watching movies. They figured we knew where the money was that this guy owed them. That was the reason the bully was so determined to get money, these guys were coming for him. At any rate he was finally convinced that no one in the house had his money when he looked over to the DVDs with a start...

On the shelf were several movies "Half Baked" & "Chronic 2001 tour", "Rolling Kansas"... too many themed DVDs to be a cooincidence. He then marched everyone to the back porch at gunpoint and lined them up. I imagine he was going to grill before he shot, but I never stayed around to find out -- that's where I woke up.

Wow. I remember a PC about 3 years ago, it was the size of a paperback book, maybe slightly larger. It had an LCD, all the normal connectors... and I believe it was a PIII 500mhz. It was never released, but wouldn't you know it... Apple is leading the way in miniaturization.

Way to go! It's relatively cheap too!

So I don't think I need to even mention that there wasn't much interest in my idea for a share of a monster computer. No one wanted to fork over the dough, though I got a lot of questions:
What's the big deal with 64 bit?
If I'm using WinXP, what good is 64 bit?
How much is this thing going to cost?
How good could this thing be?

...among others. I chose a few of the bunch.
Here's a small article regarding the bennefits of 64bit and how 64bit Windows is dealing with the old applications (32bit) that everyone's currently using.

I went out on a limb and this is the current blueprint:
AMD64 (may spring for FX if I can find it anywhere)
1GB HyperX Dual Channel DDR (3500, 2.4CLI, 433mhz)
2 x 80GIG SATA (motherboard is 3GB/sec SATA capable)
2 x 1000 mb/sec NICs built-in with network processor, all on-chip, no hit to the CPU
2 x 128mb PCI Express nVidia 6600 (2x speed of 8x AGP) in SLi (dual) mode
DVD/CDRW combo drive

The key here is duplication, spreading out processing in big chunks with the 64 bit processor, and using the hard drives as one -- reading/writing to one, then the other to effectively cute the access time in half. The 2 vidceo cards run at 8x, giving the same 16x bandwidth as one card would give, but they're able to process twice as much information without any lag. Finally, the higher speed memory will allow better performance and quicker back and forth of the data from the memory to the processor.

I'll be posting more info as I get it. Stay tuned for this riviting saga.

I am the masses. I now want to research more about Howard Hughes.

I was under the impression that the Hercules ("The Spruce Goose") never actually flew. It got off the ground, not far... but it got off the ground. I suppose some could say that's a mere technicality, but he certainly helped the industry along.

I enjoyed the movie. It gave some insight, and was well directed.
Martin Scorsese does it again.

Apparently he's fond of Leo, but he did well, none-the-less.

Wow... all it takes is someone calling everyone "cheap".

The UN guy said the World's nations were not giving as much as they should -- the US defended their pledge, raised it, now Japan chimes in with 500 million+
I can't wait to see who else jumps in.

Japan ought to focus on the alert system. They've quite the history with Tsunamis.
Odd... and I just started reading Michael Crichton's new book: State of Fear.
It's all about this stuff.
Of course there's a whole conspiracy thing going on too...
