I'm not sure about my posture, but damn if I don't feel like I'm really doing something with this laptop topped on my lap. I'm tapping off emails like there's no tomorrow, no wires, click -- email, click -- type type type reply, click -- no new email, click click -- blog blog blog.

I really like this keyboard, it's so small and compact, yet not at all. It's got all the keys I need in all the right places, I'm able to perch it almost vertically on my legs as it's so light, and can type type type a ramma. I feel alive, productive, and optimistic. I feel important.

Man -- what am I getting myself into?
I need to supply my own cable, RJ-45 jacks, cable management supplies, etc. I have to purchase all this stuff retail, today, to be ready for tomorrow. I'm going to try Radioshack first, then Lowes and see if I might be able to get some contractor rates.

I'm currently listening to an hour long web conference, pre-recorded, slides, etc. I'm waiting to call the addendum phone conference as I'm over my phone minutes again this month.

With T-Mobile I can change my plan from 600 to 3000 minutes for $10 more a month but I lose txt and data. I can change to 1000 minutes plus free nights and weekends for $20 more, but again no internet or text. With the bluetooth adapter I just picked up I'm able to dial up using the phone so I don't want to be charged per kilobit -- it's unlimited right now. Basic internet and text would add $2.99 & $2.99, and they'd be limited -- I'd better figure it out quickly, I'm already well on my way to using up my minutes for next month if I keep getting these jobs and having to make all these calls durring the day.

I hate to make too many forward-looking decisions, but I can't let my current financial limitations effect my potential for future revenue.

Well, wouldn't ya know it? I've got them beating down my door! ;)

Actually there's a technician that dropped out in the middle of a project for RollOuts so they just called me up. There's about 6 jobs this week, 4 hours a job, scattered around CT. It's most likely at a mall, it's POS, some cabling... and that's all I know at this point. I'm waiting for my login info to be reset so I can accept the project and start downloading the info I need.

I suppose this laptop will come in handy after-all and as long as I keep getting jobs keeping it won't be a problem. Once I see how much they're offering I can try and play one side against the other. I'd actually much rather do the Fleet job if I can, it's bigger, I already know the people, and it has the potential for hotel rooms and mileage. RollOuts tends to pay a lot more, I work on my own, but don't get paid for mileage.

I'll just have to see how it goes, maybe do RollOuts again this week and start Fleet when it's steady again. I love having multiple options, makes me feel like I can do this and succeed.

I could have had a job today (for Fleet) -- but I'm not going to cow-tow. I can't go out to Boston with only 4 hours notice. Granted: there's nothing going on today, but there could be. I am still recovering from being sick, so it's just as well I don't go out there. I guess the jobs are on a day to day basis now? I don't like that, and was hoping that not being available tonight might just force him into planning ahead. I need work, but I'll be damned if I'm gonna jump through hoops when they can't even tell me if there will be work from one day to the next.

He told me to call tomorrow morning. I can do that, be ready to head out there if need be, and take any available work from here on. I just need to make sure I don't wear myself down too much.

I got up nice and early today, after getting a good rest. I feel pretty good, still not 100%. I'm hungry, there's no real food in the house (that's mine), and I just barely put money in the bank where I'd be able to buy some.

The thermostat came today, I hooked it up -- no problems. It was rather easy. I was expecting voltage wires and who knows what... but it runs on AA batteries and since it's heat-only there were only 2 wires. This particular model can control a fan and cooling unit as well. I don't need those capabilities, but it was the one of the only ones that supported gas heat, so I took what I could get.

I had to watch American Beauty the other night after thinking about the dancing plastic bag(s). The bag wasn't as dramatic as it once was. Maybe I wore out the bag's novelty =] In any case I had a surprise while watching it. When the neighbor's Jim & Jim are outside at the beginning with their little dog they scold it -- "Bad Fitzi, that's a bad dog"

I wonder if I had that in my subconcious, or it could simply be a convenient cooincidence.

They've reworked the map just in time for the election.

I've done it, I've installed WinXP on my iMac.
Connectix Virtual PC 6.0 allows me to load any operating system. If you can boot from the CD, you can install it. You could probobly use a boot disk too, but who uses disks? =]~
I'm amazed. I've got a 1ghz and 786mb of RAM running OSX. The virtual PC it creates has a basic soundcard and video card (Trident S3) and whatever hard drive space you have currently. It uses the other hardware just as a PC would (DVD Drive, etc), although it's got a software layer inbetween so it's not quite as fast. The default settings result in 512mb of RAM and 500mhz 686 processor. The ammount of memory can be modified but I'm not sure about the processor, I have 1ghz to work with but I may need the difference in CPU for the translation/software inbetween. At any rate it works well enough, I don't have much processor free -- it really eats it, but it works and I can still do stuff in OSX while it's doing processing in the background. My CPU monitor is about 10-25% red, with the remaining taken up with green -- so it's using 100% of the CPU, and 25% of that is foreground processing (which is held up waiting for the current process to be completed so that it may use the result).
It's no way to live, but now it's feasable to run a dual 2ghz Mac'Tower'O'Power and virtual PC anything I may need to run.
Apparently 7.0 was the last version by Connectix before Microsoft bought them. Look out folks, if it's one thing Microsoft knows, it's a good investment.

I thought of this while driving home from the AE job this morning: I can't see a plastic bag fly by or dance in the wind without thinking of American Beauty. I loved the movie, but also appreciated "Not Another Teen Movie" spoofing it... where the bag follows the "weird kid" around all the time.

When I was finishing up the job this morning, I had a thought, a hit of deja-vu (again, yes) and I could swear that I dreamt about this before. When I arrived home, I searched my site's entries for "dream" and came up with some whacked out shit. Here's a good example.

There's nothing like a new 3D Mark to make you feel the full depth of ineptitude that is your computer's 3D abilities.

At least my main machine will play it. All the laptops either had AMD processors or ATI chipsets, no ideal combination of Intel & NVidia. So I have a measly ATI 9200 in this thing... incapable of pixel shading, aparently. So I am stuck with a 720 3D Mark 2003 score. The desktop kicks ass in 2003, and runs 2005 -- sub 10fps... can't win 'em all ;)

I wanted to see Team America: World Police last night... there was only 1 showing at 7pm! I was bummed because I was working, however -- I believe I may have missed a sneak preview. It doesn't open until the 15th according to all the ads. Hmmmm, incorrect theater posting, or sneaky preview? I may never know cause I didn't go.

I got myself a new To(y)ol, I need it for these contract jobs, the newest of which is setting up the wireless access points for American Eagle. It's a tiny little laptop -- Sony PCG-V505. I'm impressed, such a powerful machine in a tiny little package.

How can Bush sound so intelligent? I was wondering this when I was viewing the clips from the debate... and now I have an idea as to what was really going on.

There will probably be a lot of people who have the same thing to say about Rodney Dangerfield: no respect, I tell ya.
The greatest interview I ever heard was Howard Stern and Rodney, I learned a lot about the guy... and he really didn't get any respect, it wasn't just an act -- he worked with his life experiences.

He was an artist, same as many other comics. He got to live out his life (for the most part), where many burn out and go pop. There's a pressure to always be funny, a lot of people can't handle it... Chris Farley just blew his heart up, most drink themselves into a coma. I'm not sure if he was the last classic comic, but he was one of the last.

Maybe they'll be some sort of revival, or tribute on Comedy Central. I hope so, the guy deserves it.

Ladybugs -- probably his finest work, adding it to my Netflix =]

I'm freezing. The heat is just starting to come on. I got home about 7:30 this morning to a heater that was all out of water (steam heat, manual water control). Gutter had broken the thermostat when he helped move Allison in, said he'd replace it that week... and nothing, asked him about it... still nothing. Broken promises!
At any rate I just ordered one, all programmable and all that from Thermosource.com. They have really good prices, if you're in need of a new thermostat, and able to spend the little bit extra to go digital it'll save you in heating costs... and ensure a nice toasty home in the morning =]

...and "Thermostat" by They Might Be Giants just came on, how appropriate.

My apologies to everyone -- guess who forgot to renew their domain registration!

So it's all back now, and I figured I'd update a little. I have done an audioblog here and there ineptness -- unfortunately I forgot to hit pound, and 1... So it never saved and/or posted. .:sigh:.

One was a giant pumpkin sighting on my way up to VT for my brother's 40th birthday. It drove by me on the highway going the other way, and was quite a sight. It was giant, orange, a bit like a parade float -- possibly on the way to the Big E? At any rate, it was big, I was excited. It's not every day you see a giant pumpkin traveling down the highway.

The party at my brother's was nice, other then his girlfriend taking a spill a few hours before the party was set to begin. They were mountain biking down his driveway and she went over the handlebars. They thought she broke her collarbone, but it ended up being a dislocated shoulder. So it still hurt, but it wasn't as permanent. They arrived only slightly behind schedule, but she was out for the night.

I got some pictures of my brother's, I'll post them on syntheticx.fotopages.com. I also need to spend some time trimming the veritable web-site-tree -- like the photo page not actually pointing to the "fotopages" page. Little things need to be tweaked, here and there. I also have some work to do on FinishLineGFX.com, updates and the like.

post://109664639302106173/

I had a dream I was in a factory. My dad had just gotten a new job as head manager or something. His new apt/house was really nice, large, with glass walls everywhere. I had a job at the factory, I think... or I just hung around at the factory with the people who worked there.

The factory turned out to be a reality show/movie where they spent the whole movie just doing normal factory stuff, people mad at bosses, working hard to impress... until I figured out it was a show when I looked under my bed at home and there was a camera. I was in cahoots with the girl from Dead Like Me who's job it was to take the bowling balls that came out of the machine and feed them into another machine.

Once we realized that we could do anything, no one was actually watching our performance, (other then possibly an audience) we slacked off and just had fun. For example I drove a bus... and parking it I rammed into the wall did a back flip out the sunroof and landed crouched like spiderman taking a long jump.

Near the end there was some nuclear device that was supposed to have gone off due to a "mistake" at the factory, everyone was ordered to stay where they were, but everyone scattered in a panic. My dream then freeze-framed at "End of Part 1 - see Part 2: The Revealing" and the dream never continued.

Maybe someday I'll figure out what happens when everyone involved realizes their lives up to this point have been a sham, a giant factory of meaningless tasks which no one could seem to put together to realize that they weren't actually making anything.
