>Ahh yes – New Years.
The time of year when everyone is wondering what they’re going to do that was better then last year — sitting around and doing nothing, watching some “marathon” on any given cable station. What is there to do? Should I drive far away to some bustling metropolis? How about go out and risk getting mauled by some freak New Years eve accident by some hopped up drunk guy?
I say… go for it!
So Rachel and I were braving the foreboding night — venturing out to The Asylum in downtown Springfield. After an incredible night in 1999/2000 I had to go back. It was quite a bit more money, same number of headliners, and seemed a bit smaller then the other years — but we had a blast.
We got there about 10, got some VIP tags and began wandering. I was thoroughly entertained, and a nice bit of break-dancing held our attention for quite some time until shortly before midnight when we went to the main room to await the New Year.
At the stroke of 12 – the balloons dropped, the music escalated, and everyone went wild — there’s nothing like it.
The headliners were “Sugarhill Gang” — hardly up to snuff after so many years. I gave them about 5 minutes before I wasn’t able to listen anymore. They were a cover band — 50 Cent to DMX, Eminem to House of Pain… if they sang any of their own I wasn’t sticking around to hear it. I had better places to wander.
My favorites of the night? DJ Micro, Faust & Shorty, and my absolute favorite: DJ DB. I was in Drum & Bass heaven.
It was a good night overall, it was Rachel’s first party — a bit of an experience. She had a lot of fun, I did too — danced my ass of. We left just about 6 — a few stragglers, most just swaying, spent… including myself. It was a good night.
